Launch of Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate on Coursera
Google has recently launched a new professional certificate in cybersecurity, available through the online learning platform, Coursera. This program is designed to prepare individuals for a career in cybersecurity, with no degree or prior experience required. Job-ready in less than 6 months, the program imparts in-demand skills to learners and provides professional-level training from Google.
The Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate program aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and understanding of the importance of cybersecurity practices and their impact on organizations. It covers identifying common risks, threats, and vulnerabilities, as well as techniques to mitigate them. The program also includes training in protecting networks, devices, people, and data from unauthorized access and cyberattacks using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools. The course offers hands-on experience with Python, Linux, and SQL, among other things.
Upon completion, learners receive a certificate from Google, which is recognized by employers. The program prepares individuals for in-demand job titles such as cybersecurity analyst, security analyst, and security operations center (SOC) analyst. The certificate program provides exclusive access to career resources, including resume review, interview preparation, and career support. There are also opportunities to connect with over 150 U.S. hiring organizations in Google’s Employer Consortium, including Google itself and top companies like American Express, Deloitte, Colgate-Palmolive, Mandiant (now part of Google Cloud), T-Mobile, and Walmart.
The certificate program also prepares learners for the CompTIA Security+ exam, a leading certification for cybersecurity roles, offering a dual credential upon completion of both.
The program includes an Applied Learning Project with 170 hours of instruction and hundreds of practice-based assessments and activities simulating real-world cybersecurity scenarios. Each course includes portfolio activities through which learners showcase examples of cybersecurity skills that they can share with potential employers.
